Procedures: Facial procedures utilizing a variety of laser techniques have received an enormous amount of publicity. What has not been well revealed are a number of less risky and very effective techniques utilizing a wide variety of peeling agents. The superficial chemical peels provide a safe and effective method of correcting the common pigmentary irregularities seen after excessive sun exposure, pregnancy, and the use of birth control pills as well as improvement in fine wrinkling. These superficial peels, unlike the much riskier deeper peels and laser resurfacing, eliminate the “down time” and the persistent redness that may last for weeks to months.
Result: Facial peels combined with professional quality cosmetics containing the alpha hydroxy acids safely produce not only pleasing improvements in skin texture but also removal of unsightly pigmentation and lightening of fine wrinkling.
Procedures: Scars can never be erased! They can, however, be improved. Scars are objectionable for one of the following reasons: they exhibit a different color or texture from the surrounding skin; they are raised or depressed from the level of the surrounding tissues; or they cross at an unfavorable angle, the so-called relaxed skin tension lines (wrinkle lines), or distort the natural boundaries of the face (lips, lid margins, etc.).
Scar revision techniques involve a spectrum from simple shave excision or dermabrasion (sanding) to a variety of surgical procedures ranging from punch removal to complex patterns of excision.
